Free Medications:
How to Get Them

Here's how it usually works.

* Ask your doctor's office to call the number listed for the manufacturer of the meds you need. You can print this page to take with you.

* The company may then require your doctor to send in, on office stationery, a statement from the doctor stating that you need the medicine, have no insurance or other means to pay for the meds, and also include a prescription for the meds.

* If approved, the company should send the doctor's office a supply of the meds for you. You can pick the meds up from the doctor's office. This process can take a few months to get the medications started, but it is well worth the wait to get them supplied free.

* According to one person at a drug manufacturing company, you may have your prescription refilled for as long as need be. I don't know if this is the policy for all the manufacturers in the program, or only the policy of the one contacted.

* To have the prescription refilled, you must again have your doctor contact the manufacturer, and go through the procedure once more.

Each company may have a little different procedure

* Here is an address to write to for a booklet with the same information listed, with a little more detail. This booklet is an excellent resource reference for support groups.
